Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced this morning that homebuyers looking to qualify for a government-backed mortgage after April 19, 2010 will need to meet three new requirements. The changes revealed this morning include:

     • Require that all borrowers meet the standards for a five-year fixed rate mortgage even if they choose a mortgage with a lower interest rate and shorter term.
     • Lower the maximum amount Canadians can withdraw in refinancing their mortgages to 90 per cent from 95 per cent of the value of their homes.
     • Require a minimum down payment of 20 per cent for government-backed mortgage insurance on non-owner-occupied properties purchased for speculation.

“There’s no clear evidence of a housing bubble, but we’re taking proactive, prudent and cautious steps today to help prevent one. Our Government is acting to help prevent Canadian households from getting overextended, and acting to help prevent some lenders from facilitating it,” Minister Flaherty said in a press release.

What a week, first the Olympics Games in Vancouver, now my family and friends are celebrating Chinese New Year in Asia. Remember the 10 things NOT to do on this special day to have a great tiger’s year. Will be celebrating it together with Valentine Day tomorrow with my family.

Video was taken 1 day before the opening of the 2010 Olympics Games! The Olympics’ touch arrived at 4.40 pm on February 11, one day before the opening ceremonies. Traffic were at a standstill on the corner of West Blvd and West 41st, the busy corner of Kerrisdale as we have a first look at the Olympics’ flame.

Took a walking tour in downtown Vancouver and Yaletown on Monday February 8, 4 days before Vancouver welcome the world with the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Wanted to see the Olympic village where all the Olympic’s athletics are staying and to have a look at the “Boxing Kangaroo.” Must be the safest place in the world as security is everywhere. Vancouver real estate will be shut down in the area around Yaletown as lots of roads are close  for traffic.
As you can see we are ready for the world to see the most beautiful city in the world!
